Community consensus

Understand the forecast median and why it resists isolated extreme values.

Community consensus summarizes everyone’s current forecasts. Plura displays it as a median.

How the median works

The system sorts current values from lowest to highest and chooses the value in the middle.

20%, 35%, 52%, 70%, 95% → median 52%

One unusually low or high estimate cannot move the median on its own. Every forecaster has equal influence on this primary indicator.

The history chart

When people add or update forecasts, Plura stores a new consensus snapshot. The chart reveals when the shared estimate changed and whether that movement coincided with new information.

Using consensus well

  • compare it with your independent estimate;
  • check whether you missed an important fact;
  • explain why your number differs;
  • do not change a value solely because it disagrees with the group.

Consensus is not a guarantee

The median summarizes current opinions, but the community can be wrong. It is a reference point, not a confirmed future outcome.

When your accuracy is evaluated, your result is compared with historical consensus that excludes your own influence. This prevents your forecast from making its own reference easier to beat.
